Jane Austen refers in her diaries to a "Mrs F A" who is probably her uncle Frank's wife.

Fred Atkins testified falsely against Wilde [fweet-3]

[the following is mooted by a 1927 date for 'F A']
If "Mrs F— A—" is really Cicely Isabel Fairfield, aka 'Rebecca West', who compromised her feminist reputation in 1930 at the age of 37 by marrying H.M. Andrews... I'm not even clear if this mention is a nod or a dig. She'd published a glorious but very mixed long tribute to "Ulysses" in 1928 called "The Strange Necessity" that seems to me to ask all the right questions, while jumping hastily to some exactly-wrong conclusions: "Mr. James Joyce is a great man who is entirely without taste... gross sentimentality is his most fundamental error... his use of obscene words is altogether outside the aesthetic process... Ulysses is written by genius... beyond the power of any other writer alive or dead... a wild flounder... conceived in confusion... naive realism... the liberation of a suppressed human tendency..." She likens it to the overbusy painting "Derby Day".
Joyce's first reaction was "I think that P.P. [Pomes Penyeach] had in her case the intended effect of blowing up some bogey bogus personality and that she is quite delighted with the explosion."

A veiled sunlight lit up faintly the grey sheet of water where the river was embayed. In the distance along the course of the slow-flowing Liffey slender masts flecked the sky and, more distant still, the dim fabric of the city lay prone in haze. Like a scene on some vague arras, old as man's weariness, the image of the seventh city of christendom was visible to him across the timeless air, no older nor more weary nor less patient of subjection than in the days of the thingmote.
